AM> Hi all,

AM> On Sunday, October 24, 1999, 3:35:42 AM (-5 GMT), Marck scribbled:

AM> But Mark, many have mentioned this problem before and have been told
AM> that it's a feature and not a bug. ;-)

Yes, but not to an accurate definition of how to fix it. I think we
can achieve this from here.

It's where two consecutive paragraphs are merged when there is no
clear line between them. I am refining the definition to say that it
right sometimes, but not when dealing with two differing quote
prefixed paragraphs.

AM> I don't like it at all, but it would seem that the autoformat
AM> designates separate paragraphs by the fact that they're separated
AM> by a blank line and nothing else. The fact that one is a quoted
AM> paragraph and one isn't doesn't matter.

Oh, but I'm now saying that it *should* on the basis that this is a
/clear/ distinction that the programmers can make!

AM> If you start typing just above a paragraph, the paragraph text
AM> gets rewrapped into yours.

I don't mind / can live with that. OTOH, perhaps only any alphanumeric
terminated lines should be eligible for merging with lines below. That
would give yet another way for the RIT guys to work out what should /
should not be wrapped in auto-format.

Max, Stef - are you getting this? These two enhancements shouldn't be
too hard and will really tidy up the way a-f works.

AM> Interestingly, I have a text editor called Winedt, that's written
AM> in Delphi. It can be setup to behave in the same fashion as TB's
AM> editor autoformat feature. So, I have to agree that it's a most
AM> unusual feature but one at that.

Ah-hah! That implies that RIT have used a standard edit control
component which they can't re-engineer so readily, so we may truly be
stuck with it.

AM> When you get caught, extricate yourself with the undo feature
AM> (alt+backspace).

I do. It usually works. Sometimes not.

AM> If you try to delete what you typed and manually rearrange, it
AM> often makes matters worse.

Not if you remember to turn of a-f first ;-)

Cheers,
Marck
