I've been a member of STC twice. The first time I joined was as a student at New Mexico State University. My grandfather had recommended joining up and had offered to pay my membership. Unfortunately, the student chapter disbanded, I dropped out of college (economic reasons), and I moved to Seattle (also economic reasons). I was not in a position to participate in STC again until graduate school at the University of North Texas (a decade later).

The Lonestar Community in Dallas/Fort Worth has provided many opportunities to be a part of the community and participate in professional development outside of work. The networking is most valuable because I am a lone writer and, at the time I re-joined, I was new to the DFW area. I've built some great freindship over the last three years and learned a great deal from my peers and guest speakers.

I whole-heartedly encourage anyone who is looking to expand their expertise in Tech Comm to join STC. It's certainly worth the cost!

Thanks for bringing up the subject, Donna. And for reminding me to send in my renewal!

:)
