Managers are paid to have at least half a clue. A product manager should know that a product name change say, is going to affect packaging (Marketing), sales materials (Sales), splash screens (Development), documentation (TWs), etc. Making such a decision based only on the product perspective without seeing the big picture is irresponsible. Managers manage data, people, resources and risk. They must take all elements into consideration, doing what is right for their area of responsibility while being aware of how their cog fits into the bigger machine. The better each manager is able to achieve their unit's goals while supporting company goals, the stronger the company.
