I wasn't even talking about that, just about making decisions based on knowing the options and their consequences and not "shooting from the hip," "flying by the seat of your pants" or any number of euphemisms for managing by sheer dumb luck. Companies whose management does that don't just make life for the people they jerk around tougher, they also make it downright scary. If the process for setting a deadline is that poorly handled, how do I know the product I'm documenting has been evaluated for its abilty to make a profit even if we meet all the deadlines? (Answer: I don't. Been there, done that, didn't even get a $%^ T-shirt).
