As someone who was a contractor for 18 years and now an employee for
over 1, my first thought is that it would be better to be employee
because, and this seems strange, I think you would be taken more
seriously as a manager who is an employee, than a contractor who is a
manager.

To phrase it another way, as an employee, you have some skin in the
game.
