I have my doubts about that, at least after a certain
point. If there are no kids to put braces on and no
sick family members who make substantial use of
medical bennies, I think most people considering
a job offer think primarily about money, and most
people considering looking for a new job think
primarily about whatever it is at their current jobs
that has ticked them off at their employer or made
them feel jittery about their longterm prospects
there. "Total compensation" is an HR buzz phrase,
but it is essentially meaningless to most regular
employees.
