Not to mention ambushes and personal networking within the company. If you work for/with companies with processes for providing SME inputs and review comments to writers that works like a well-oiled machine, whether you're there or not may not be relevant to success, but it's much more difficult to lay in wait in the cafeteria to catch an elusive SME while he/she is weighed down with a getaway-preventing tray of food if you're not physically there.
