I’m driving a Z06 back and forth to school every day. It gets 30 mpg highway
and somewhere around 17 in town (not bad for 405 HP). My average of everything
combined is 21.4 or something like that according to the computer. I’m good
with that. And like Michael, I enjoy my ride (sometimes a little too much at 6
AM on country highway, during deer season). During bad weather I drive the
truck. Both of them beat the heck out of the 1992 Celica I used to drive that
rode worse than a 4WD in the Outback and smelled like my son’s dorm room (wait,
it was his for 3 years), even though it averaged 32 mpg.

To each his/her own and may we all get there safely.

As completely off-topic as this is, I have to join in....

It makes absolutely no sense to most people, but my wife drives her Civic three
miles each way to work everyday and averages ~34mpg and I drive my F-150 Lariat
thirty miles each way to work every day. I get ~19mpg highway but tend to
finish a tank around 17mpg between random other trips and just getting out of
and back into town.

The thing of it is, though, I enjoy my ride and if I have to spend and hour
everyday in a vehicle - I might as well enjoy it: I personally would not get
enough pleasure out of saving half of my fuel costs by driving the Civic as I
get from driving my Lariat...

I face some difficult driving conditions in the winter months and it
occasionally comes in super handy to have my own truck at work, but more than
anything else, I pay and extra $25 a week on fuel to really enjoy my ride - we
pinch pennies in other places. (Isn't it one of the ultimate truths that
everyone spends their money in their own way!)

My Yaris gets 50+mpg, so does my wife's Corolla. Helps that we do almost no

I'll vouch for the Prius -- bought mine and now that I am driving to
Bloomington I am sitting at 50+ MPG average...
