I did buy my Prius used. Had 18K miles and I got it for 12K...quite a bit less 
than even I had hoped for. 

I have not purchased a "new" vehicle in quite a few years. While it might run 
me a little more in maintenance and/or repair I offset that with how much more 
a new one would have cost (that would have depreciated greatly when you drove 
it off the lot) and interest charges between the two prices.
