Because the original gnu g[un]zip will not work on anything wich hasn't the
".gz".

*I* know that I can simply pipe it into gzip and it will not know what file
that is. But it *does* complicate things for another part of potential users.

Also gsview usually will take over the *.ps automatically on WinXX, but *not*
the *.pgz  you have to accociate these by hand.
