It's been a long time since I read Kingdom Come so I don't remember what happened, frankly.
As far as Mjolnir causing serious harm, I think the blow did some harm. It looks like Supes is really struggling to push against Mjolnir (and losing), but he has enough in the tank to punch Thor off of him. His hand might be broken, or something like that. The easy excuse for all this is the same way that Flash was taken off the board by saying "there's no Speed Force in the Marvel Universe" by saying that "Marvel magic is different than DC magic." Superman would tap out to Prof. Xavier pretty quickly. He would try to fight it but mind control is something Supes can't really counter. Was that why Wonder Woman killed Max Lord, because he was mind controlling Big Blue?
