makes sense. My only thought might be that he had to set the stage for fans who had NO idea what a post Return of the Jedi galaxy would be aside form the New Republic and their heros Luke, Han, Leia & Chewie.
i hesitate re-reading the books as i am not sure that they will live up to the love i had for them at the time.
