Jeffrey:

If you go to chrome://plugins/ and disable Chrome pdf viewer, that will turn 
off print preview.  Of course that will also turn off pdf viewing.

I don't get the same memory problem when I run Chrome and do print previews.  
There may be something broken in your installation.  You might try uninstalling 
and reinstalling.
