Well, I really think this is a important subject. Right now, my personal opinion (and feeling) is that the so-called Open-Source software concept is very cynical (make no confusion, I'm not talking here of TinyERP, it's about the concept).
There are several reasons for my opinion, but one stands out (and, that's where Microsoft is winning - again - the battle in the large corporations): that's OVERALL QUALITY !!! Every software designed on earth could and SHOULD be self-explanatory, and exempt of bugs, in a sense that the user should never need to buy "services" to implement, customize and use the software. Take for instance, the example of Microsoft Word or Excel. They are probably one of the best pieces of software ever. Not even OOo cames close. Why do you think so many people, around the world, use illegal versions of the microsoft products?? Because they "just work". Even if you get a illegal copy of .Net, you get lot's of GOOD documentation, that if you read you can start building apps in a few hours. Take the opposite exemple, Zope/Plone: there are lot's and lot's of add-ons (products) for Plone, but if you look deeper, you will find out, that many of them, are just alpha or betas versions, the final version has never been published. BUT THEY EXIST !!! Only that if you want , you have to contact the developer and pay the "support" option... see the cynical part???? And, this kind of approach, is growing faster in the open-source world, and maybe latter will kill it. (I hope not) So, if "intersol" wants to develop a module, if he wants to develop a bug free, code-perfect, user-friendly module, with documentation, etc., even if it's only 1%, he should have the right to deserve to get money for that effort, and to sell the module. That's it. "Because perfection has no price!!" _______________________________________________ Tinyerp-users mailing list http://tiny.be/mailman/listinfo/tinyerp-users
