For the 4-5 courses that I'm associated with (intro, stats, all labs, cog, & s & p), we put a line in the syllabus that tells the students they are required to check email at least every other day.  We're apt to email anything from special study sessions to extra online articles to answer keys for homework, etc.   Generally, by the time our students get out of the intro to psych sequence, they've got the habit to look for email from their instructors.  I also maintain a "Course Launch" web page for all current courses -- the students know before they ask that the answer to where to pick up the homework is "it's online!"... :-) ...

Since all registered students here have a campus
e-mail address,I began the practice of e-mailing
study and informational materials in lieu of class
handouts.I am discovering that some students
do not bother to check their e-mail and hence miss

this practice and revert to class handouts?
I would like to hear from other tipsters who have tried and have had similar experiences.
