I have never considered this type of mass emailing to students, and probably wouldn't, given the technical concerns of the emails/attachments actually getting through. But I find it very useful to post all handouts online. With a basic webpage set up, it is just as easy to post documents as it would be to email. For the required handouts (such as assignments) I also give paper copies (but no extra copies). For the optional handouts (such as outlines, study guides) they are only online. These online resources are also useful to me--for instance, while grading papers at home, I can easily refer to the assignment sheet if I did not bring home a hard copy.

Since all registered students here have a campus
e-mail address,I began the practice of e-mailing
study and informational materials in lieu of class
handouts.I am discovering that some students
do not bother to check their e-mail and hence miss
important study materials.Should I discontinue
this practice and revert to class handouts?
I would like to hear from other tipsters who have tried and have had similar experiences.
