I have to agree with Scat here with regards to the amount of soppy pap that
is in the charts these days.
The thing that really annoys me most is the fact that when these bands are
aimed at the kids, it's the adults that are most 'into it'. Lets not blame
the kids here, they aren't the ones with the money to buy the records, but
it's a clever ploy to spend the money that the parents earn. The whole
pressure thing, and making the adults feel that they are depriving the kids
if they don't buy them the albums/pillow cases/pants etc... no, this is not
where the problems lie. It's when adults decide to follow the band when they
do not have kids themselves, and dress up like the 7 year olds when they are
in fact 27!! I know of many examples, friends, work colleagues etc... that
have followed just about every boy/girl band possible, and it makes me think
'why?' I love Madness to death, but I would never try to ram it down
someones throat. Those that know me know I love the band, and if they're
interested, they will ask. However, I'm sick of hearing about how cute H
from Steps is (the fact that he is known by a single letter just about sums
it up), or how good A1's album is. It's all a load of contrived crap.
When we were down in London last Friday, we happened to see some kiddies
programme about the aforementioned band-'staircase' as we call them- and
they seemed oh so smug that they'd written, wait for it, a massive 1/3 of
their new album themselves!! Come on please, someone shoot them or put
arsenic in their Orange Juice!!
Also, the other thing that brasses me off is the fact that they are viewed
as role models, etc and are complete a***holes when you meet them. I used to
work on and off for our local radio's promotions department around 5 years
ago. I met quite a few celebrities as a result and I can honestly say that
only 1 band were half decent, but after they got a record deal all that
changed. I've only met 4 members of Madness but they are so down to earth
and have accomplished far more than these sad individuals could ever hope to
do. Also, take comfort in the fact that after 20 years will there be
meetings of their fans or things such as Madstock? I feel not, and that is
where we, as fans of the maddies, shall have the last laugh!
Sorry to vent my spleen on the list, but it does make me mad!

Some people, through no fault of their own, are sane.
