These are different uses. You do not need audiophile modded SB in your garden, or in your kitchen. Or maybe there are people who do? :D I was talking solely about desire to get the most in terms of audio quality over SPDIF output in your main "audiophile" system. Does modding the Touch, *in regard of its concept*, really make sense? If you are such a hard core audiophile and you decide to remove all its distinctive features for the sake of the best performance that you can squeeze :) from it, maybe you could just go for a different product. If sound quality is the most important aspect, to a "real" audiophile it should be, you might get equal audio performance for less money, or better for similar money.
