I don't get the comparison to a Hiface. The primary purpose of these mods is to improve the quality of the analog outs. I don't see how a HiFace improves on that. You still need a separate DAC to get an analog out. By the time you get an external S/PDIF input DAC that sounds as good as the modded Touch you have spent WAY more money than the Touch. I fail to see how that invalidates these mods.
Yep its true, by the time you have done the full blown implementation you don't have a display and you don't have wifi. But you do have extremely good sound that would take way more money to get with other implementations. And you get that sound quality as part of an integrated whole house system. Why is this not worthwhile for some people? If you could care less about that sound quality or you have already spent thousands on a system that meets or exceeds the SQ then of course these mods are useless for you, don't implement them! But there will be some people for which doing this is by far the least expensive route for getting high quality sound.
