just to chime in on this point only (I'm not getting involved in this
other discussion and I use my TOUCH as is by the way). I use my iPENG
(on my iPHONE) to control my touch, transporter, and other SB players.
And I can do anything I want to do from the iPENG without having to
look at my computer running SbS. One could also use the controller if
you have one (I do, and my wife uses this for controlling). So I
wouldn't "need" the touch screen to be on, but in my case it is on, and
I like seeing the album art there while things are playing. 

But by the way, I'm about to replace an SB3 with a TOUCH in another
location and it happens to be in a cabinet where I will NOT see the
TOUCH screen, but I'm still happy to have the better audio out from the
Touch as compared with the SB3 (and a less RF noise inducing
powersupply).
