Caad: I am "afraid" to open up and mess with my Touch's guts. I only have one and can't get another for close to a reasonable price. I really count on my Touch and value it a lot, wish I had got another, strictly as a backup because I couldn't use two of them -at the time-, but now I could... :(
Though I have been an electronics hobbyist since the late '60s, and aren't afraid to mess with things in general, I have to admit that it's more difficult for me now to play with SMD stuff and really close pin spacings. I have a binocular scope etc. for doing this stuff, and I do work with "larger" SMD stuff, but I don't find it pleasant at all i.e. not a hobby thing if hobbies are meant to be fun (?? lol). hifidan: that's a pretty pricey coax cable, as they go. And a pretty cheap Toslink cable, as they go. Been a while since I used a Toslink with the Touch, but that shrill high end sounds like what I recall from plastic Tos. Just not an "easy" sound with this BDA-1/Touch interface compared to the coax (even a -much- cheaper coax cable). I think you will find glass Tos better, a more fair comparison. Still, the coax will probably be preferable to you with this DAC, you could look in the ~$50 range if the $500 one is just on trial or something, no need to go crazy, I didn't and am plenty happy with it. You could maybe ask on one of the forums about what Toslink cables were found to work decently with the BDA-1, maybe Audio Circle or such. Usually (meaning not BDA-1-specific) people just say to get a -Silflex- and be done with it if you must use Toslink for some reason. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ cfraser's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=48869 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=100955 _______________________________________________ Touch mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
