Pixels will be more difficult because different letters have different lengths and they also have different length depending on font. Thanks again for taking a look at this. Well, it sounds like you're trying to get the translators to translate the strings and make sure they're not too long. Why not develop a tool for that, so that each source string is accompanied by a length, and when the translator types the text, the tool calculates the pixel length based on the characters that the translator had typed. If it is too long, he can change it until it is the right length. One system that is not FOSS but which allows the translator to see what his translation would look like almost immediately, is LGI: http://www.memecode.com/lgi.php http://www.memecode.com/lgires.php It is open source but I'm not sure what the licence is.
