Where does it say they were immortal? They had to partake of the tree of
life to continue living, and after disobeying they separated from it,
Genesis 2:17 "But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou
shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt
surely die. Young's translation states of Genesis 2:17 "and of the tree
of knowledge of good and evil, thou dost not eat of it, for in the day
of thine eating of it -- dying thou dost die.'" They appear to have been
clothed with light which was dispelled by the darkness of sin so that
they were naked. I cannot see that they were ever immortal. Believers
will become immortal, but only at the resurrection, 1 Corinthians
15:51-53, "Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we
shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the
last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised
incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on
incorruption, and this mortal [must] put on immortality." If our souls
were immortal there would be no need for us to be clothed with
immortality, James Templeton
