I am thinking Armstrong was a member of the 7th Day Adventist Church and was disfellowshipped.  I might be wrong about him be kicked out, but I am quite sure he got his ideas from the 7th day bunch and maybe the Masons.  I used to know but I don't remember.

Armstrong certainly could have been influenced by the BoM, but my guess is
that he developed his own theology and that any similarity with the LDS is
coincidental. If you are trying to use one cult's beliefs to verify
another's beliefs, good luck.
