DAVEH:  Kevin, I hope you don't mind me jumping into this discussion with Blaine.  Understanding/defining salvation has been one of my interests in TT.  I have previously explained my (simple) definition of salvation means the ultimate arrival in heaven.....IOW, when one has reached heaven, one is saved.  FWIW.....An LDS fellow (MW Hickenbotham) offers a few passages that relate to the 6 meanings described by DHO below......

1.)  Capitvity---Ex 14:13 & 30, Jd 5

2.)  Enemies---Num 10:9, 2Chr 20:17, Lk 1:71

3.)  Sin---Ps 51:1-12, Eph 2:5

4.)  Physical death---Gen 47:25, 2Pt 2:5

5.)  Spiritual death---Ps 35:9, Jn 3:16, 1Pt 1:9

6.)  God's wrath---Rm 5:9

..........I'm not sure of your position on this, Kevin......Do you disagree with any of these?  How do you (or Christians from your perspective) define salvation?  From what do you feel you are saved?

Kevin Deegan wrote:

Redefining everything in terms of LDS doctrine is a way of life. Elder Dallin H. Oaks Of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles discussed Mormon doctrine in  the General Conference (May  1998 LDS Ensign Magazine). He asked the audience: "Have  you been saved? As Latter-day Saints use the words saved and salvation, there are at least six different meanings. What do we  say when someone asks us, "Have you been saved?" This question.. can be puzzling to members of The Church of Jesus Christ of  Latter-day Saints because it is not our usual way of speaking. We  tend to speak of "saved" or "salvation" as a future event rather  than something that has already been realized. If we answer  according to  what our questioner probably means in asking if we have  been "saved", our answer must be "yes". If we answer according to the various  meanings we attach to the terms saved or salvation,  our answer will be either "yes" or "yes, but with conditions.""As I understand what is meant by the  good Christians who  speak  in these terms, we are  "saved"  when  we sincerely  declare or confess that we have accepted Jesus  Christ as our personal Lord and Savior. This meaning relies on words the Apostle Paul taught the Christians of his day: "That  if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus,  and shalt  believe in thine heart that God hath raised him  from  the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth  unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation." (Romans 10:9,10)
To  the  Latter-day Saints.. we are assured  salvation  from  the consequences of sin if we are obedient. Every sincere  Latter-day Saint is "saved" according to this meaning. We have been converted to the restored gospel of Jesus Christ, we  have  experienced repentance  and  baptism, and we are renewing  our  covenants  of baptism by partaking of the sacrament."So are you PROBABLY SAVED?The "RESTORED Gospel" is ANOTHER GospelYou are on the BROAD WAY to DESTRUCTION!You are under a CURSE!GAL 1:8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.
