I am just interested in knowing how some
Christians try to narrow their definition of 'Christian' to eliminate
those who have contrasting beliefs.

Well said.  This is a penetrating question, and  I would like a
response to it from other ttr's if possible.  I am sincere in asking
this.  Judy, DaveM, Laura, Izzy, Kevin, Dean, Ruben, anyone?
I am not trying to put anyone on the spot here, just want to hear
from a few of you on this subject-- I think it goes to the heart
of the matter rather succinctly.

Judy:
No problem Blaine and DaveH.  The plumbline or line of
agreement/separation is the Word of God.  We either gather around
it in fellowship or it separates us. Walking with God is impossible
when we will not agree with Him.

God Himself says through the prophet Isaiah "To the law and to the
testimony; if they speak not according to this word, it is because there
is no light in them" (Isaiah 8:20).

So this is how we know the called among us. One can outwardly
appear to be a lamb but as soon as they open their mouth their
cover is blown and they are immediately identified as a wolf by
those who have spiritual eyes to see and spiritual ears to hear.

Grace and Peace,
Judy

A Christian is one who has a relationship with Christ.  That means following Him, communicating with Him, learning from Him, following His teachings etc   - everything we would do with anyone we have the right relationship with.  That is kind of a simple definition but it works for me. Laura
