Journal of Discourses 6:275 Adam and Eve ate gross matter (of this earth)to produce mortal bodies for their spirit children.
BY "After men have got their exaltations and their crowns-have becomeGods, even the song of God-are made Kings of kings and Lords of lords, they have the power then of propagating their species in spirit; and thatis the first of their operations with regard to organizing a world. Poweris then given to them to organize the elements, and then commence theorganization of tabernacles. How can they do it? Have they to go to thatearth? Yes, an Adam will have to go there, and he cannot do without Eve;he must have Eve to commence the work of generation, and they will go intothe garden, and continue to eat and drink of the fruits of the corporealworld, until this grosser matter is diffused sufficiently through theircelestial bodies to enable them, according to the established laws, toproduce mortal tabernacles for their spiritual children."This is a key for you. The faithful will become Gods, even the sons ofGod; but this does not overthrow the idea that we have a father. Adam ismy father; (this I will explain to you at some future time;) but it doesnot prove that he is not my father, if I become a God: it does not provethat I have not a father.
J D 4:217-218 Adam ate coarse material until his system was charged with it and he could produce mortal children.
BY "Things were first created spiritually; the Father actually begat thespirits, and they were brought forth and lived with Him. Then He commencedthe work of creating earthly tabernacles, precisely as He had been createdin this flesh himself, by partaking of the course material that wasorganized and composed this earth, until His system was charged with it,consequently the tabernacles of His children were organized from thecoarse materials of this earth. When the time came that His first-born, the Saviour, should come into theworld and take a tabernacle, the Father came Himself and favoured thatspirit with a tabernacle instead of letting any other man do it. TheSaviour was begotten by the Father of His spirit, by the same Being who isthe Father of our spirits, and that is all the organic difference betweenJesus Christ and you and me. And a difference there is between our Fatherand us consists in that He has gained His exaltation, and has obtainedeternal lives. The principle of eternal lives is an eternal existence, eternal duration, eternal exaltation. Endless are His kingdoms, endlessHis thrones and His dominions, and endless are His posterity; they neverwill cease to multiply from this time henceforth and forever."J D 13:145 For Adam and Eve to eat forbidden fruit was part of theeternal plan - don't blame Eve.
BY "We also understand the earth, and the nature of the earth, and why Godpermitted Mother Eve to partake of the forbidden fruit. We should not havebeen here to-day if she had not; we could never have possessed wisdom andintelligence if she had not done it. It was all in the economy of heaven, and we need not talk about it; it is all right. We should never blameMother Eve, not the least. I am thankful to God that I know good fromevil, the bitter from the sweet, the things of God from the things not ofGod. When I look at the economy of heaven my heart leaps for joy, and if Ihad the tongue of an angel, or the tongues of the whole human familycombined, I would praise God in the highest for His great wisdom andcondescension in suffering the children of men to fall into the very sininto which they have fallen, for He did it that they, like Jesus, mightdescend below all things and then press forward and rise above all."J D 7:158 Man partook so he could know good and evil.
BY "The children of men are in ignorance and darkness, with theirsuperstitions, prepossessed notions, feelings, education, and traditions.Look at them as they are-placed here for the express purpose of provingthemselves before their God. Darkness and sin were permitted to come onthis earth. Man partook of the forbidden fruit in accordance with a plandevised from eternity, that mankind might be brought in contact with theprinciples and powers of darkness, that they might know the bitter and thesweet, the good and the evil, and be able to discern between light anddarkness, to enable them to receive light continually. Christ is the lightof the world, and lighteth every man that cometh into it. No son ordaughter of Adam ever lived on the earth, or ever will, but has had orwill have the light of Christ within them."J D 2:302 Adam ate and fell, Because there was "No other way."
BY "In my fullest belief, it was the design of the Lord that Adam shouldpartake of the forbidden fruit, and I believe that Adam knew all about itbefore he came to this earth. I believe there was no other way leading tothrones and dominions only for him to transgress, or take that positionwhich transgression alone could place man in, to descend below all things, that they might ascend to thrones, principalities, and powers; for theycould not ascend to that eminence without first descending, nor upon anyother principle"J D 7:285 Our parents were brought from another planet.
BY "When you tell me that father Adam was made as we make adobies from the earth, you tell me what I deem an idle tale. When you tell me that thebeasts of the field were produced in that manner, you are speaking idlewords devoid of meaning. There is no such thing in all the eternitieswhere the Gods dwell. Mankind are here because they are the offspring ofparents who were first brought here from another planet, and power wasgiven them to propagate their species, and they were commanded to multiplyand replenish the earth. The offspring of Adam and Eve are commanded totake the rude elements, and, by the knowledge God has given, to convertthem into everything required for their life, health, adornment, wealth, comfort, and consolation."J D 8:244 Adam brought seed and animals here.
HEBER C. KIMBALL"The religion of Jesus Christ, of angels, of Brigham, andof all good men is to take a care of and improve and adorn the earth asAdam did. When he planted the garden, he planted it with seeds he broughtwith him; and he also brought the animals from the earth he lived upon, where his Father dwelt."J D 3:319 Adam made like you and I on another earth. Brought one of the wives with him.
BY "Though we have it in history that our father Adam was made of the dustof this earth, and that he knew nothing about his God previous to beingmade here, yet it is not so; and when we learn the truth we shall see andunderstand that he helped to make this world, and was the chief manager inthat operation. He was the person who brought the animals and the seeds from other planetsto this world, and brought a wife with him and stayed here. You may readand believe what you please as to what is found written in the Bible. Adamwas made from the dust of an earth, but not from the dust of this earth. He was made as you and I are made, and no person was ever made upon anyother principle."J D 8:208 If faithful, women to become Eves.
BY "Let me here say a word to console the feelings and hearts of all whobelong to this Church. Many of the sisters grieve because they are notblessed with offspring. You will see the time when you will have millionsof children around you. If you are faithful to your covenants, you will bemothers of nations. You will become Eves to earths like this; and when youhave assisted in peopling one earth, there are millions of earths still inthe course of creation. And when they have endured a thousand milliontimes longer than this earth, it is only as it were the beginning of yourcreations. Be faithful, and if you are not blest with children in thistime, you will be hereafter. But I would not dare tell you all I knowabout these matters, though I know but little: still I am not a fool inthe things of God, neither is brother Taylor, though he saw so much tolearn that he did not realize that he had learned anything. We havelearned a great deal, although we are still but babes and sucklings in thethings of God; yet the truth and knowledge we possess pertaining to theplan of salvation ontweigh [outweigh] all possessed by others on theearth. Be faithful, and you will delight in the things of God, and bearthe yoke-carry the burden God has placed on you to bear."J D 18:326 Joseph Smith knew Adam well, could describe him.
ELDER JOHN TAYLOR "Why was it that all these people should be associatedwith all these dispensations, and all could communicate with Joseph Smith?Because he stood at the head of the dispensation of the fullness of times, which comprehends all the various dispensations that have existed upon theearth, and that as the Gods in the eternal worlds and the Priesthood thatofficiated in time and eternity had declared that it was time for theissuing forth of all these things, they all combined together to impart tohim the keys of their several missions, that he might be fully competent, through the intelligence and aid afforded him through these severalparties, to introduce the Gospel in all its fullness, namely, thedispensation of the fullness of times, when, says the Apostle Paul, "Hemight gather all things in Christ, both which are in heaven and which arein earth, even in him." Consequently he stood in that position, and hencehis familiarity with all these various dispensations and the men whoadministered in them. If you were to ask Joseph what sort of a looking manAdam was, he would tell you at once; he would tell you his size andappearance and all about him. You might have asked him what sort of menPeter, James and John were, and he could have told you. Why? Because hehad seen them."
