I think I should maybe google a bit before asking things like that. 
http://linux.yyz.us/why-software-raid.html shows me some good insight and 
any other comments on hardware vs kernel RAID appreciated. My choice is to 
use or not use the few Adaptec 2940U2W Raid controleers I have.
