Okay, I think I'm figuring it out. I was always calling the
TTF_RenderUF8_Blended function, regardless as to whether the
'wordwrap_text()' function was being told it should use UTF8.
Turning that off fixed the non-UTF8 stamps, but ended up breaking other
text and the pop-up prompts.
Of course, we're now asking gettext to:
bind_textdomain_codeset("tuxpaint", "UTF8");
which means, if I understand correctly, that all translated text (e.g.,
from the PO / MO files) will be UTF8, so I can ALWAYS have those strings
rendered using the UTF8 function.
I'll keep plugging away at it, and when I get something that seems to work
right, I'll commit to CVS and post another note to these lists.
I'd appreciate it if folks who're more versed in this can test some. :^)
