McCain did in the open what Palin could not do - which is make fun of himself a little, and then give the other side a little bit of the business. Palin couldn't do that because she is not a serious enough figure to take it, while McCain obviously is. McCain is also a funny guy, when he is not playing a crabby tight assed conservative, as he has been this campaign season. The Update bit was weaker, and I thought both McCain and Seth seemed somewhat uncomfortable. If Fey is going to keep doing Palin, she needs to keep showing more thigh. My daughter told me The View skit was funny - I did not recognize anyone except for Whoopy Goldberg, so I don't have an opinion, except I thought Affleck's Baldwin was pretty good. I was surprised to see John and Cindy "Trollop" McCain both waiving goodbye at the close - 1:00 am really is past their bedtime. They have tried to keep his weekend schedule light all fall - early on he actually took saturdays off from campaigning, and while I see why they thought it worth their time to fly into NYC for the exposure and humanization, I don't see the need to keep him up an extra hour just so he can waive good night. Dude will probably be on the go for most of the next 60 hours, and the "he's old" thing is not just a stale joke, it's also true. I hope he doesn't go into one of his salty marine freak-outs and call Palin a rogue c*nt late Monday evening. Do they ever tape the "good-night" segment from the dress rehearsal and use that? Maybe Tina Fey likes hanging out with her old friends - but I wouldn't be surprised if she wouldn't have minded taking off after her bit in the open and not waiting around 84 minutes. I do think it was a good idea letting the musical acts on SNL use instruments this season - it makes them seem a little more like rock and rollers. I didn't realize Hooty and the Blowfish were going to be on tonight through. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ Like TV only smarter.
