When David Letterman was interviewed by Ted Koppel for Nightline, he said that he had Gore and Bush on as guests early in the campaign. He later got a call from one of the campaigns, and he wouldn't say which one, asking to have the candidate come back on, even to just do a comedy sketch. Dave said he thought it wasn't appropriate and refused. I remember watching the SNL McCain hosted and I thought he did a good job. But he wasn't in a campaign for office when he did it. I'm bothered that a candidate won't separate entertainment from the campaign. Reagan managed it, and though I am no fan of his, I prefer it that way.
