I don't think he suffers from pride, else he'd be smiling all the time... 
he's too bleeping bitter to smile, unless a doctor or one of the home-care 
visitors (their latest contract runs out this coming week) says the perfect 
thing to him.

He's fearful of calling the throat specialist, as recommended by his MDs, 
lest the former find more malignancy, to which exactly how the MDs will 
respond is a crapshoot.

He suffers from just enough overnight urinary leakage to annoy, and can't 
see going through nightly under-undies for it.
