Looking at it from the point of view of the other work that the
Academy does besides the awards shows, the older members
may be current donors or plan to leave bequests of money,
films, memorabilia, etc to the film archive, library and/or
new museum. Older members are more likely to be the
people who have the time to volunteer in various capacities
to support these Academy activities including their educational
programs and support for new young filmmakers.
Based on personal experience with volunteer organizations
that my parents or I have belonged to, it's not a good idea
to dump or ignore members, especially active members,
just because of age.
