I’ve never been on the set of a game show able to tape in real time. When Fox did what was basically a kids version of Millionaire, one episode took 12 hours to record — it broke several child labor laws. In most cases it was the technology that caused the delay (the Wonderwall on the short lived Winning Lines took several hours to get running each time, the computers that controlled the light and sound cues on Greed suffered constant breakdowns). TPIR was notoriously analog under Barker... even the sound cues were on carts (8 track tapes) — benefit of the old school gear is fewer parts, thus fewer problems.
