Maverick could work but it HAS to hide the command level completely from
the user. The user should have no way to know that they are running Pick.
Their two installs seem to be targeted at developers, I don't see an option
to hide the system or prevent code changes. I mean I can't open AVG and
change it's code.
The other thing about this install is that it requires the user to do some
operation at the command prompt, to make it functional. So it's not really
following best practice, which is to make the install seemless without the
need for any user intervention other than clicking OK and Install once
every few minutes.
This actually seems normal to me for most "complicated" programs like
databases etc. I'm setting up my home pc with gentoo and a server-grade
install and an awful lot of stuff needs configuring to what I want -
generic defaults don't ever seem to be what I want :-)
Maybe someone would be interested in making changes like that to the
Maverick install. I haven't looked at it myself to see how difficult such a
thing might be. But I might.
Could you set up your app the way you want it on your system, then ship
it as a self-extracting tarball/zip? Not having had much to do with
MaVerick for ages I'm not sure how it's changed over the years ...
As far as using Pick BASIC versus something else, remember I'm a pick
programmer, so I want to bring expertise of *some* kind to the project.
Otherwise I'd be replaced by a high school kid! :)
Of course :-)
The other options I'd look at are OpenInsight/Revelation (that was my
immediate reaction, actually), or possibly SQL-Lite (as used by a lot of
Free projects) although that's not Pick.

Cheers,
Wol
