In all fairness IBM did wave the charge due to the amnesty program. However, if I had not happened to have a support issue at the time I did, I would not have known that my maintenance had lapsed and would likely have been charged the penalty. At that point I would have moved to JBase rather than pay such a huge fee. IBM said their records show that someone tried to contact me but was told I was out of town. I never received another call.
