Newer firmware do lose some of the edge frequencies on certain devices, after updating. I think it was just on Powerbeams of a certain hardware revision. Newer models all work at the edge bands if I recall. I think you have to activate the UNII rules for that to happen though, but I could be wrong. For example, some of the M5 firmwares do not allow 5840, but still allow 5835. Those same models do not allow 5735 but do allow 5840. I am not sure what the behavior of the device is when you upgrade to those firmwares if it sits on the edge band at the time of the update and is in AP mode, as we only use them for CPEs. We ended up moving all of our APs off of those edge bands after getting a large batch of CPEs that couldn't 'see' the APs.

Nanostation m5s throw me off the most since they do some eds channels but not all so it's easier to get lucky and work out of the box and forget on them.
