Hi Art

With your alarm on, either lights or both sound and lights and you shut down
your engines, the OIL lights and or bell will light up or ring because there
is no oil pressure. The alarm sys does not know why there is no oil
pressure, just there is no pressure. If one of the oil lights does not light
up on shutdown (alarm in the on position) you have a problem with the one
that is not lit. The only way you can shut of the lights or bell with the
engines off, is turning off the alarm sys. or restarting your engines.

Your water lights will not light up when you shut down because you have not
overheated your engines. The only time they come on is in an overheating
situation.

I hope I made it clear for you?

Capt. Perry

Thanks - ALL.. For Uni's oil pressure alarm info! Will post when repair
completed.

Capt Perry - Correct me if I misunderstood; the way I understand what you
depict about Uni alarm system: Oil alarm SHOULD activate alarm sound and
light when eng is shut down and then STOP activating when eng is started. I
thought oil pressure and water temp alarms were to activate when engines
were on and a problem occurred. I only mention the following because I now
wonder if my Uni's alarm system is currently working correctly. My alarm
area has one toggle that allows alarm activation to occur with light only
and/or with both light and ringing bells at the same time (I keep it in
position to activite both lights and bell ring). Alarm area's other toggle
(an alarm activation switch) has three positions. Off, On and Test. When in
Off position nothing occurs engines started or not. In On position all
alarms are not activated when engines are started or stopped, unless a
problem occurs while engines are running (except recently the port alarm
light and ring is activating even with engines off). The Test position
lights up all alarms and rings the bell whether engines are running or shut
down. Do you feel the alarms are operating as designed. except the port oil
alarm? Or; is it that only the port oil alarm has begun to act correctly?
I did have an overheat alarm activate once 6 months ago; and for a good
reason! Is saved my engine and my a%$! While piloting from bridge, port
engine had developed a pressure leak in a hose of its fresh water closed
loop system. No lasting engine problem occurred; alarm sounded loudly at
190 degree temperature on guage, and even with engines running at 2850RPM
and heading into stiff breeze I heard the alarm bells on the bridge. TG! So
I knew that at least one alarm was working correctly! Best regards, Art

I have the same block. One sender is much larger than the other on it. The
larger one on my boat is for the oil gauge and the small pancake looking one
is for the alarm. If you are not sure which one, take the wire of the large
sender and see if you still show oil pressure, if you do not than that
sender is for the gauge.

You can buy senders with different pressure ranges on them. The alarm sender
can be what ever you want it to be. The oil gauge sender has to be match
with the oil pressure gauge or you will get false readings

The oil pressure alarm should sound and light up when you shut down the
engine If it turns its self off when you restart the engine, than it is
working correctly.

Make sure you have good grounds (common problem), A poor ground will cause
you problems

Art, my alarm sender is on a rectangular, aluminum "manifold" (block) that
also has the oil pressure sender. So yes, I would expect that yours is near
the pressure sender. I don't know your engine(s), so it is possible that
they are NOT together, but I'd look there first.
Good luck and let us know what you learn.

Hello Fellow Uniflite Lovers. Our Uni is a 1973 31' Sport Sedan: Been
following your oil alarm posts. I have a port oil alarm that rings and
flashes the alarm at incorrect time... my ring sounds and light flashes the
port oil alarm seconds after the motor is shut down and oil pressure is at
0. I simply flick the alarm master switch to off and on; depending if
motors are started or off. But, I wonder if the port alarm would work if
oil pressure dropped while motor was running?? Can you tell me where to
look for the sender switch in this case? I imagine it's on the engine right
by the sender for oil pressure gauge - correct? I've not searched for it
yet but plan to locate and replace it in near future. Any hints
appreciated! Thanks, Art

Thanks for the information Jeb. I have determined that mine is closed
at low or no pressure. Therefore it is OPEN at pressure. I glanced
at Summit but I don't see anything there, so I will stop in at my
local auto parts store.
