The pages at the linux / NSLU2 website are a bit confused IMHO. Yes - I installed slimserver using ipkg (on unslung). I tried first with SlugOS/BE but that was quite painful ! So you are saying that I basically need uninstall slimserver and install squeezecenter on a debian base. What is it that is done to slimserver that has made it "slimmer" than the basic squeezecenter distribution which is perl scripts, as I understand things ? Are you also saying that there won't be a new slimmed down version of squeeze center that could be installed with ipkg ? I don't fancy trying debian / squeezecenter. If there isn't going to be a new version then I'll be digging out an old PC to run it on.
