I was wondering whether there would be some really fundamental technical problem with the slug which would eliminate C / sqllite from consideration. I understand that it would be silly to write Squeezecenter with only the NSLU2 in mind. My favourite language is Java and I wouldn't even begin to try to make a case for that on the NSLU2 !! The bigger problem, though, is that this software bloat is costing the earth ! Perhaps we don't pay enough for our technology, perhaps if RAM cost more we'd have to take it seriously. I wanted to use my NSLU to save me some money on my electricity bill :-) >The simple solution is to get a faster computer, say some old crock that >your neighbor is throwing away. Yes - I have a spare or two of my own in the attic ! I'll be looking for the slimmest Linux distro and turning off all the services I don't need. Maybe if I am careful in that way it won't use much more power than the slug. Then, of course, I'll wonder why I don't run my backups / network storage of that same machine as well. And then I'll wonder why I bought the slug in the first place :-( Thanks everyone. Thanks for your help in the posting and thanks for all your work keeping things like squeezecenter going. It really is appreciated. I am not criticising choice of tools. I have no doubt that the best choice was made given all known factors at the start. -- chrisfaulkner ------------------------------------------------------------------------ chrisfaulkner's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17487 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=47587 _______________________________________________ unix mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/unix
