There have been many arguments over the choice of Perl over the years. MySql was just recently added, and the power of a real relational database are just starting to be explored. The prime reason 'why not' is that it works. If you changed it to (insert favorite language here) you would have to reimplement it, and re-test it completely. So far, there have been zero solid arguments supporting "change" so the real question is, can you argue "why" more effectively now.
