Looks like Catch 22.

have a look at this: http://www.ntfs-3g.org/index.html

Note that you will need to unmount the drive first if it is auto
mounted.

Until you can read and write to the NTFS drive, you will not be able to
change the permissions.  You will need to mount the drive using ntfs-3g
to allow you to change the permissions.  You could always revert to
read only when you've done this if you thing the risk of subsequently
corrupting the data is unacceptable.
