OK, thanks to everyone for your replies. I went and installed ClarkConnect with Samba and SqueezeCenter, and the system is now functioning very well. I even get great response from SC to my SBC, I'd say slightly better than when running SC on my C2D laptop under XP. And this is for a Celeron III / 600 MHz. Of course, certain tasks are slower, such as scanning. Transferring files from Windows to the external HD (which is now formatted to EXT2) works really well over the network.
I can recommend ClarkConnect for anyone wishing to setup a dedicated file / SC server, since there's a very good step-by-step guide: http://www.ulverston.myzen.co.uk/mini-itx/index.htm Everything worked first time for me. Next up will be a wooden crate inside which I shall install the laptop internals + external HD with some quiet fans, but that's another story :) Thanks again to everyone. -- Skinny ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Skinny's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=21538 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=56652 _______________________________________________ unix mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/unix
