Squeezeslave doesn't support gapless playback due to the way the buffering code was implemented.
It's on my TODO list as part of rewriting the buffering code. The WASAPI support in libportaudio does not currently support exclusive mode. I didn't notice any startup delays when I was testing, however, Ionly tested using 44.1KHz samplerate files. What samplerate are you using? If it's 48KHz the driver might be resampling as SS is opening the device using 44.1KHZ as that's the only rate SS supports.
