No, I didn't get any further with it. I haven't used EAC for a while. On the odd occasion I've done a rip, I've used Sound Juicer. Interesting you're seeing the same inexplicable red 'indicator' (if it does indicate anything) on Arch. So it's clearly something to do with EAC or WINE, and not the OS, as I had begun to think. (I see the same thing with EAC under WINE on Ubuntu.) You might try checking with the WINE guys?
