I found more information that I thought I might share (not trying to
hijack this thread, I swear). 

I looked at the files on my share where EAC/Flac creates them.  I see
the temporary wav and flac files that EAC and Flac create as part of
their process, before replacing them with properly named files.  Those
temporary files are still in the target directory and should have been
deleted already.  

This leads to me to look at the security on the server share, with an
eye toward anthing that might prevent accesss.  Network obstacles will
slow any application, so I think this is the right direction. I am able
to browse, open, and delete anything the share from my ubuntu laptop,
including watch movies.  

I would love to hear some suggestions from the community on how I might
test or where I might look.
