OK, thanks for that, must admit I didn't do a proper shutdown, I will do that and see if its set after next boot. Its not that the PCM2707 is defaulting to max - alsamixer actually shows -20db but whatever I change the mixer level to seems to make no difference and it is at the same sound level as my refeence CD player. Anyhow quite happy its doing that. OK, one more question. CM6631 USB chips - are they supported under squeezelite?
