I suspect what is causing the difference is the analog outputs are set
to 75% with this installed and 100% with it not.  This possibly comes
from the defaults in /usr/share/alsa/init/default?  

However as all this is doing is restoring the alsa init settings and the
usual use of soa is to play direct to the hardware device and avoid any
alsa layer features.  Do we really need this - resetting the alsa params
to those stored only matters if we are using them?
