Well to help answer your question I went to the Yamaha website since
we both have Yamaha CDRW machines. I find that Yamaha has two models
that are newer then your 2100 machine. The 2200 & 3200 CDRW machines.
They both are made in Firewire,USB, IDE & SCSI Internal & External
models. The 3200 also has an IDE/ SCSI model works for both!!! So
while SCSI maybe less common in the future it has never been as
common as IDE. It is a rare PC machine that has a SCSI bus installed.
New Macs use IDE CDRW & DVD .They are usually cheaper then SCSI
models. I have a TDK IDE model in a PC and it works really well .
Many people have found they can use IDE CDRW and DVD players with
their OLD World Macs/clones by using an IDE/ATA pci card. So I'm
fairly sure we will have options that will work in our machines for
their useable life time. Which has already lasted a lot longer then
Apple hoped they would ;-) Will S
