This may be true, but the minimum OS required to run Classic is 9.1.  
There should be no reason why 9.1 is not a viable system suitcase.  A 
have not tried this myself either, but I had a problem with classic 
before where it said something to the effect of, "you do not have valid 
system software to run classic.  OS 9.1 or later is required to run this 
environment".  I get this message at school everyday, but haven't had 
time to fix it yet.

But OS 9.1 is fully supported with pre-beige G3 hardware and would be a 
better option than a 9.2x/X combo where both are unsupported.
